
Marmaris
Marmaris is a heavenly corner where you can see all grades and harmonies of green and blue during the twelve months of the year.
The abundance of bays in the long coast line; its being a natural port; ancient cities; natural attractions; Blue Cruise facilities, marina for 800 boat and water-sports facilities are the peculiarities making Marmaris a paradise for tourists.
Since it has the Mediterranean climate, it is possible to enjoy swimming in the sea even in winter. Thick and high pine forests surrounding it, large leafed plane trees, and günlük trees which are peculiar to Muğla only and found no where else in the world, are the essence of green texture of Marmaris.
Short Story
Marmaris is an ancient Karian city dating from 3400 BC. Its name in ancient period is Physkos.. Karians, who developed Marmaris into a military base, had the richest and the most powerful state in the Eastern Mediterranean, with their great civilizations in the ancient cities Mylassa (Milas), Halicarnassos (Bodrum), Cnidus (Datça) and Caunos (Dalyan). This region lived through, afterwards, the sovereignties of Egypt, Asur, Eolia, Ionia; Dor, Persian, Macedonia, Bergama, Roman, Arabian, Byzantium and Ottomoan, respectively. Ottoman Sultan, Kanuni Sultan Süleiman captured Marmaris in 1322 and then conquered Rhodes. The name Marmaris was given after the conquest of the region by Turks.
Communications;
Regular bus services from Istanbul, Izmir, Denizli, Mugla and Antalya; Dalaman Airport (90 km.) and Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport (280 km.) make it possible to get to Marmaris by land, air and sea either in winter and summer. Ferry-boat trips are arranged to Rhodes everyday (except Sunday) in Summer, and three days a week in winter.
Entertaiment:
You can have a very good time to your heart's content in discos and casinos of big touristic establishments and holiday village, and also in restaurant, casinos, bar, cafe, particularly those in the marina, in other discos and casinos in different places in the city, and on the boats arranging musical entertainment trips in the bay.
Shopping:
You can buy the famous pine honey of the region, various products such as regional hand made carpets and kilims, and also gifts from all parts of Turkey; various jewelery made of mainly gold and silver; leather clothing; all kind of spices and medical plants, and any kind materials necessary for yachts from markets of wide varieties and the covered bazaar of Marmaris. Beds in 59 approved establishments which are going to be at service in the year 1991, the total number of the establishments for accommodation shall reach to 4486 with a capacity of 42309 beds.
In additional to this, there have been 3274 beds in 462 yachts belonging to 30 yacht institutions approved as Touristic Institution.
