Bodrum, formerly Halicarnassus, is a Turkish port town in Muğla Province, in the southwestern Aegean Region of the country. It is located on the southern coast of Bodrum Peninsula, at a point that checks the entry into the Gulf of Gökova, and it faces the Greek island of Kos. Today, it is an international center of tourism and yachting. The city was called Halicarnassus of Caria in ancient times.

It is one of Turkey's well-known tourist centres and is especially prized during the summer..Fethiye-Öludeniz was chosen as the best tourism centre in the world by the Times and Guardian Newspapers in 2007.

The ancient port city of Olympos was one of the members of the Lycian Federation in Lycian times.The city, which is found on 2nd century BC, is emptied on 6th century AD or it is estimated the city was abandoned by the 15th century. Olympos is between Adrasan and Kemer. It's name is probably derived from Olympos mountain roughly 15 km north of the city.

Since Göcek is a Registered Area of Special Protection where multi-storey buildings are not allowed, the boarding facilities are two-storied hotels, motels, apart-hotels and pensions situated in the town center and its periphery. Göcek has all the necessary infrastructure, capacity and spaces expected in a tourism center, yet it is renowned as a much more peaceful and quiet settlement compared to other tourism areas.
